I believe this is a VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY BAD idea. Political pressure, as always, is ignorant to the dynamics of NVG flight. I spent a few years under this generation NVGs. Depth perception, fine visual cues and smoke/light refraction on the NVGs all have to be dealt with. Pre-mission planning is how these risks are mitigated in the military. Moon phase, clouds, obstacles are fine if you plan for them ahead of time. Fire is so dynamic all of these changes will make it extremely dangerous.
The military makes it look too easy! It isn't!
