Brother Jimmy,
The only way you can piss me off is if you go out and do something stupid in that airchine. I am glad to see a trend here of one by one stepping up to the plate and taking responsibility. I would not trade my time in tankers nor make any changes for anything. I have the highest respect for those that made it as good as possible for me and all that followed.
Wade has the right ideas, but instead of making one giant leap, it needs to be organized and planed. I see the modern equipment in the tankers today and wonder if it is a jester to appease the Forest Service and FAA or a real effort to increase the safety of the crew.
Having backed away from the industry a bit and looking at the improvements, I have to question some of the theories, changes in operation, training and most important the follow through of any change to see if it improved the problem. Without evaluation an implemented plan is doomed. Too many times a plan is redesigned to suit the person it is to help because; 1. they have no idea what the outcome is to be, 2. It is too much trouble to change their ways after 30 years in the industry. 3. Lack of faith in the ones that designed the plan. 4. Afraid it may work and make them look silly for not having faith in it. 5. Last but not least .... it wasn't their idea so it can't possibly work.
Come on folks, this is 2009 many of you are the last ditch effort to save the forest and urban areas. Cutting the fleet from 44 to 19 saved a lot of money for someone. It is time to invest that money on a new fleet or at least get the ball rolling. Mother nature has been very kind but you all know it will change and back to the 1994 and 2002 type season.
Enough! Thank you Jimmy for your words. I have to go now and evade the nurse. She wants my Superman decoder ring. Without it I can't decode NFIC sit reports.
