Marin Golf Tournament

On Thursday, May 3, the Marin County Fire Dept and their Firefighter's Association hosted the annual fundraising golf tournament for the benefit of the AAP Memorial Fund and the Alisa-Ann Ruch Burn Foundation. Thanks to great efforts by the tournament committee (Kellie, Breanna, Bruce, Mike, Christine, Karin, Bart, Vince and Gabby) it was successful again with roughly 133 players in attendance (out of a possible 144). The tournament was played in between two Bay Area-wide rain storms in somewhat windy conditions but everyone seemed to have a great time.

The AAP gourmet chefs set a new record by cooking 900 oysters on the MCFD BBQ grill (and maybe a second record for the number "tasted" by the cooks to ensure a quality product). Two "raffle carts," each staffed by two determined ticket sales persons, made several - speedy - rounds of the golf course during the tournament. Many were the duffers who graciously allowed their pockets to be lightened while measuring a drive or lining up a putt ... When the banquet hour arrived, almost every available ticket had been purchased.

The absence of Ron Thomas was felt by everyone but his guiding spirit ensured a fun experience for all and significant new funding for the two non-profit organizations. A wide variety of raffle prizes and silent auction items were sold as well as quite a few Ron Thomas memorial t-shirts. Speaking of which, Gabby Newhart still has 35 shirts left, so contact her ASAP if you would like to purchase one while they last (gabbynew@sbcglobal.net).

AAP thanks the firefighters of Marin County for such wonderful support!
